2.3 How do I add a Contract that is already in Salesforce to a Different Account?

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

There can only be one contact record in Salesforce. In instances where we need to add an already-existing contact to an additional account, instead of using the “New Contact” form, we would choose “Add Relationship”

In our example, I want to add Lisa Vicary as a contact to “Katie’s Bakery” account:

1. Go into Katie’s Bakery account.

3. Click “New Contact”.

4. Click “Master Type” and “Next”.

5. Type in the First and Last name of who you want to add under your account.

6. Because you received the error shown above, this means Lisa Vicary is already a contact within Salesforce and we cannot add her again.

7. Press Cancel to exit this screen.

9. Type in the name of the person you wish to add.

10. Since that person is already a contact within Salesforce, he/she will pop up as shown in example above.  Click on the name.

11. Click Save.

12. Both contacts  show up now under your account “Katie’s Bakery.”
