2.9 | How do I change the default view on the screen in Salesforce?

Updated on

Most of the time, you will Navigate Salesforce using the Dashboard.  However, there may be times when you find that you want to go directly to an Order or a Quote.  This article will give you some tips on how to use the drop-down view.

Opportunities

As you know, everything starts out with an Opportunity.  If you are not sure whether the Customer would have entered a quote or an order, you can always start with Opportunities.

The placement of your Main Menu Tabs might be slightly different than mine, but the steps to follow will be the same.

1. Go to Opportunities in the Main Menu.

2. This window defaults to Recently Viewed.

3. Click on the drop-down arrow to view other options.

One view that I find helpful is NEW THIS WEEK.  You can choose whichever one makes the most sense to you.

4. If you wish to save this as your default view, you can click on the push pin next to the view you've selected.

5. A confirmation message appears.

6. You can use the search field to narrow the results.

7. You can also click on the header to sort by one of the columns.  In this example you can see that data are sorted by close date in descending order.

Remember that anything in blue is a hyperlink.  In the screenshot below, you have the option of going into the account or into the opportunity.

Quotes

8. Looking at Quotes, you can see there are many other options for display.

9. One of the more helpful columns in this view is the "Status" View.

10. For Orders, there are fewer options to choose from: Activated, Draft, All and Recently viewed.

These options are available to ADMIN and those with higher level permissions.

There are a number of other options that you may see depending on your access.

1. Next to the Search field is the gear item.  This should be only accessible to Admins.  When you click on the gear, you will see options to change the way the list looks: including filters, fields to display, sharing settings and more.

2. The Grid icon gives you three options in displaying your info: The default is Display as Table.  Other options are Kanban and Split View.

3. The Refresh icon will reload the screen.

4. The Pencil is the Edit Icon.

5. The Pie icon shows any charts that have been created.

6. The Filter icon allows you to customize and save views.

7. When you click on the arrow at the far right of each line, you will see three options available:  Edit, Delete and Change Owner.

A.  Edit takes you into the details for the order.

B.  Delete allows you to delete the item.

C.  Change Owner allows you to change the Owner or Queue that the order is in.
