6.13 | What happens in eCommerce when a Product Price Type DISCOUNT is updated for a customer in Salesforce?

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

When a Product Price Type discount percentage (example 10% of -NEW)  is changed for a customer in Salesforce, the discount passes through to all products with that price type for that particular customer in eCommerce.  This article will walk through an example of how it works with a Legacy product.

Note -  Once the change is made in Salesforce, nothing needs to be done in eCommerce.  The prices are updated automatically through integration.

Please note:  Discounts will NOT be updated for any previous orders, nor for any order that the customer doesn't sign in to the ATS Store before checkout.

1. In this example, we are going to use a test company called "Markey Machinery Repair and Service" that has Product Price type discounts set up in Salesforce.  In this case, we will look at the Legacy Discount which is set at 5%.

2. Next, we will navigate to a specific Legacy product in eCommerce on buy.advancedtech.com, in this case the Product ID is "1100TAG1" and we are going to pull up the product without logging in, which will show list price of $514.00.

3. Next, we will login to the admin portal of eCommerce and find "Markey Machinery Repair and Service" under the customer tab.

4. Next, navigate to Products and then Price Lists and look up the "Markey Machinery Repair and Service" price list and Click the Hyperlink for the Price List Name.

5. Once you are in the "Markey Machinery..." Price List, search the Legacy product part ID "1100TAG1" to see what the discount shows.  It should match the % shown in Salesforce.

6. In this case, the discount % shows 5% (as it should) and shows the customer price of $488.30

7. Next, login to the customer facing side of eCommerce as "Markey Machinery Repair and Service" from the admin portal.  Now lookup part number "1100TAG1" as we did before.  The price should show $488.30 which reflects the 5% discount for this Legacy part.

8. Now, we will change the Product Price Type discount in Salesforce for Legacy Products from 5% to 8% for "Markey Machine Repair and Service"

9. After hitting "Save" in Salesforce, this will trigger the integration to re-price all Legacy Products for "Markey Machine Repair and Service" on their specific Price List in eCommerce.  It will take several minutes for these changes to take effect.  Re-check the Price List in eCommerce and it should reflect the new Legacy Product discount of 8% that was initiated in Salesforce.   The new price should be $472.88 (List price of $514.00 x 0.92 = $472.88)

10. Now refresh your screen on the session that is logged on eCommerce as "Markey Machine Repair and Service" with the product "1100TAG1" shown.  The new price should show $472.88 which takes into account the new 8% discount.

Note:  If the new price does not show in eCommerce within 5 minutes, contact the Customer Service Supervisor or eCommerce administrator for assistance.
